NaPoWriMo Day 18

Writing

Writing
brings the passion
out in a quiet soul -
telling the stories of their hearts,
of love, of hate, of a world so cruel
and of the beauty in the grey.
The blank pages call for ink -
wonderful is
writing.

NaPoWriMo Day 17

Masquerade

Masked faces amble by
Music weaving like silk
Muscle shifts as we dance together
Moisture drips down – pooling
Mischief ensues as we bump and grind
Moaning, two strangers part with
Musing secrets untold

NaPoWriMo Day 16

Cranes

At the city’s docks
live the mechanical cranes -
that slowly move – graceful, calm.
The containers they carry
in their clamped “beaks”
resembling worms.
Tall and high – beautiful,
you see them standing – watchful
on the horizon,
their greyness melding with the blue of night.

While at the city’s park
live the avian cranes
that quietly stalk through the reeds,
blue-grey feathered heads cocked
as they watch – waiting,
legs long and thin – wading exotic.
At sunset, they launch into the sky,
gentle wings flapping
as they head towards sea -
towards their mechanical counterparts.

Legends and Flaws

Come, come -
listen
as I tell the story
about the songs of old.
A story of destiny,
of blood, of sorrows, of addiction
and of the souls broken
by these doomed lovers and haters.

There was a great King,
who united a divided land.
The King’s adviser was a powerful warlock,
who foretold their doom.
The King’s Queen was beloved by all,
who gave her heart to two.
The King’s favourite knight was loyal and true,
who took his duty too far.
The King’s sister was an envious witch,
who begot a son of incest.
The King’s son was a manipulated whelp,
who murdered his father in battle.

These few broken souls -
who loved, lusted, feared, loathed -
almost decimated a nation
due to their flaws -
due to human nature.

NaPoWriMo Day 13

You and the Dark

Every day, when the sun sets – you welcome the dark.
It embraces you like a cool lover in the dark.

It calls to you, screaming your name, yearning for you
to join it, like a friend lost in the cosmic dark.

It licks you, nuzzles you before growling, snapping
like a wolf pack hunting at midnight in the dark.

It watches you like night time owls – wide eyed and keen,
watching as you scurry around – no light, just dark.

It smells you – the fear, the thrill, the lust, the loathing
as it wafts off you in the gentle windy dark.

I, Meg have lived through this phenomenon of night.
I, too have embraced the soul of the endless dark.

NaPoWriMo Day 12

Hide and Seek

A continuous game
of cat and mouse -
no winners or losers,
until the eclipse
darkens the world.

The sun seeks the moon
as it hides amongst the stars
while the moon seeks the sun
as it shines down from above.

Seeking, searching -
forever apart,
until they meet
in a line
and make the day go black.
