NaPoWriMo Day 20

The Wolf and The Crow

Hunting the cold battlefield,
scavenging -
the wolf,
white as snow,
lopes silently over bodies
dead and bloodied -
the crow,
black as coal,
glides overhead – watching
as the dying sun
reflects off broken armour.
They hunt
through the remains
blending together -
black and white -
blending
into the greys,
the shades of grey
in the twilight darkness.
They scavenge
through the bodies,
fur and feathers
dripping with matted blood
like the valkyries of old
scavenging the souls of the fallen.
The bodies -
fading to dust
as the wolf and the crow
move on
leaving an empty field
of sunken shields,
broken armour,
rusted weapons
and bleeding grass.
