NaPoWriMo Day 24

Shooting Stars and Wishes

No answers come when I reflect
on shooting stars and fairy tales -
and my wishes the stars will reject.
No answers come when I reflect
on my sad dreams – I recollect
the uselessness of wishing whales.
No answers come when I reflect
on shooting stars and fairy tales.

NaPoWriMo Day 23

Origami

Flocks
of brightly coloured
cranes
circle the ceiling -
hanging motionless -
dark dragons
invade
separating
the flocks.
They stir -
wings flapping softly
in a gentle breeze
while
bunnies -
of many nuances and colours -
huddle like families
on shelves, tables and floors.
As white swans
perched on candles
float in bowls of water
surrounded by
tissue-thin lotus blossoms.
Green and red frogs
of varying sizes -
hiding in corners -
nestle amongst
the daisies and cherry blossoms.

Origami -
creating
a colourful, miniature
paradise
from pieces
of paper.

NaPoWriMo Day 22

The Rulers of the Forest

In Spring,
the Stag rules the land
of new growth -
as flowers bloom
and streams fill.
The Stag, graceful
with growing antlers
and silky fur
watches proudly
as the world wakes
with a burst of
vibrant colour,
heady perfumes
and constant chatter.

In Summer,
the Eagle reigns supreme
over green fields
and clear blue skies
and fluffy clouds,
The Eagle, fierce -
its head proud
and eye wary,
glides elegantly
while the world grows
with new life -
lush and verdant -
squirrels play on sun dappled leaves
to the sound of buzzing bees.

In Autumn,
the Wildcat is king
in this fiery land
of red and gold
and luke-warm sun.
The Wildcat, predatory -
ears pricked
and paws soft,
stalks silently
the scurrying rodents
while large eyed owls watch
as the waning moon
shines down on falling leaves
lighting the world in fire.

In Winter,
the Wolf is leader of the pack
in the white wonderland
of bare trees
and blistery blizzards.
The Wolf, loyal
with haunting barks
and laughing pups,
hunt together,
nose scenting the cold wind
as animals snuggle
to sleep all season -
warm and dry -
while the North Wind blows.

NaPoWriMo Day 21

Vampiric

Sucking the life out
of dying souls every day.
Work – killing artists.

NaPoWriMo Day 20

The Wolf and The Crow

Hunting the cold battlefield,
scavenging -
the wolf,
white as snow,
lopes silently over bodies
dead and bloodied -
the crow,
black as coal,
glides overhead – watching
as the dying sun
reflects off broken armour.
They hunt
through the remains
blending together -
black and white -
blending
into the greys,
the shades of grey
in the twilight darkness.
They scavenge
through the bodies,
fur and feathers
dripping with matted blood
like the valkyries of old
scavenging the souls of the fallen.
The bodies -
fading to dust
as the wolf and the crow
move on
leaving an empty field
of sunken shields,
broken armour,
rusted weapons
and bleeding grass.

NaPoWriMo Day 19

Fire

Fire, fire -
burning bright
in the corners of the night,
lighting -
lighting the darkness in the land.
Burning, killing – breaking down,
it feeds -
its hunger insatiable.

Fire, fire -
growing bigger,
getting hotter,
the more it feeds,
the more it breathes.

Fire, fire -
bodies burn,
cinder crisp -
buildings crumble,
falling Lego -
windows shatter,
syrup glass -

Fire, fire -
burning bright
in the corners of my mind,
flames
growing higher -
reflecting in my eyes.

Fire, fire -
sing to me,
burning with desire,
I watch the burning -
gas can and lighter at my feet.
